Obama Nominates Indian-American Renee Ramaswamy to National Council of Arts
New Delhi: US President Barack Obama has nominated Indian-American Renee Ramaswamy to the prestigious National Council of the Arts for a five year term. A Bharatanatayam proponent, Ramaswamy founded the Ragamala Music and Dance Theatre in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1992 and has played a vital role in popularising this classical Indian dance form in the US.
Obama has sent her nomination, along with others, to the Senate for its approval. "Ranee Ramaswamy, of Minnesota, to be a Member of the National Council on the Arts for a term expiring September 3, 2018, vice Miguel Campaneria, term expired," the White House said.
